We would love to welcome you and your new four-legged bundle of joy to our pet-friendly apartments in Coconut Creek! If you are thinking of getting a new puppy or adopting an older dog, consider the following breeds. Giant paws and long legs don’t always mix well with smaller living spaces, but these breeds have the right behavioral characteristics and size for apartment living.
French Bulldogs: Often referred to as Frenchies, this breed is a perfect apartment dog. They are small, actually miniature versions of bulldogs, and quiet and calm most of the time. This breed likes to chill and relax near their owners because they thrive on human contact. Buy them a comfortable bed with a blanket so they can create their own space to lounge when you aren’t home. French bulldogs are also great with other pets and young children, plus they are known for being easy to train, although sometimes they can be stubborn. They do require daily walks and attention as well, but their activity level is usually pretty low.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel: This breed weighs in as the smallest on our list at only 13-18 pounds. These precious dogs love to be spoiled and shouldn’t be left alone for extended periods of time. Spaniels are known to chase and cuddle often, which can be great for children or single adults! They will lay on your lap and beg for belly rubs any chance they get or play chase you around the house. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are also extra friendly, so be prepared to stop several times during your evening walks to meet all your neighbors!
Pugs: Our other featured breed is the Pug. They are relatively small, highly affectionate, and require regular exercise due to their high-energy nature. While they are often playful, other times their lazy and loveable side comes through. They will want to snuggle and sleep near you, but if snoring bothers you or interrupts your sleep, this squished nose cutie may not be for you. Pugs are extremely loyal and enjoy interacting with other animals, so if you already have a dog or cat, a Pug would be a good addition to your family. Keep in mind they do not do well alone.
These three breeds are great options for apartment living because they are small and don’t require a lot of space to feel comfortable. Each of these dogs require little exercise and don’t need a full-size yard to keep them happy. Do some more of your own research about these breeds to make the decision for you and your family. Here is a list of 29 dog breeds that would also do well in an apartment.
